Simple on-the-fly automatic verification of linear temporal logic

چکیده
We present a tableau-based construction for obtaining an automaton from a temporal logic formula in an “on-the-fly” fashion. That is, the automaton can be constructed simultaneously with, and guided by, the generation of the model. In particular, it is possible to detect that a property does not hold by only constructing part of the model and of the automaton. The algorithm can also be used to check the validity of a temporal logic assertion. Although the general problem is PSPACE-complete, experiments show that our algorithm performs quite well on the temporal formulas typically encountered in verification. While basing linear-time temporal logic modelchecking upon a transformation to automata is not new, the details of how to do this efficiently, and in “on-the-fly” fashion have never been given.

This text includes verification of the basic algorithm in Simple On-the-fly Automatic Verification of Linear Temporal Logic (LTL). LTL formula can be transformed to Buchi automaton, and this transforming algorithm is mainly used at Simple On-the-fly Automatic Verification. In this article, we verified the transforming algorithm itself. At first, we prepared some definitions and operations for t...
متن کاملTowards a More Intuitive Specification and Automatic Verification of System Properties with FBT: A Tool for Translating Interval Formulas into Büchi Automata
This paper presents the FBT (FIL to Büchi automaton Translator) tool which automatically translates any formula from FIL (Future Interval Logic) into its semantically equivalent Büchi automaton. There are two advantages of using this logic for specifying and verifying system properties instead of other more traditional and extended temporal logics, such as LTL (Linear Temporal Logic): firstly, ...
متن کاملDeciding LTL over Mazurkiewicz Traces
Linear time temporal logic (LTL) has become a well established tool for specifying the dynamic behaviour of reactive systems with an interleaving semantics, and the automata-theoretic approach has proven to be a very useful mechanism for performing automatic verification in this setting. Especially alternating automata turned out to be a powerful tool in constructing efficient yet simple to und...

متن کاملUnified Bounded Model Checking for MSVL
This paper presents Unified Bounded Model Checking (UBMC) for the verification of an infinite state system described with Modeling, Simulation and Verification Language (MSVL) which is an executable subset of Projection Temporal Logic (PTL). The desired property is specified by a Propositional PTL (PPTL) formula. We present the bounded semantics of PPTL and the approach to implementing UBMC. A ...
